What is Endurance
Endurance Riding is a competitive equine event for riders of all ages (see Jr. Riders for more details) and horses of all breeds.
It is a timed test of an individual horse/rider team’s ability to traverse a marked, measured cross-county “trail” over natural terrain for 25 mile (Limited Distance Event), 50 miles, 75 miles, or 100 miles in a single day.
Getting Started
Putting on a long distance ride takes a surprising amount of man power. If you want to come and get a taste of what we do we are always looking for time keepers, and other support staff.
If you’d like to ride check out our New Rider information page, or take a look at the events going on this year back at the top of the page.
About the Sport
Endurance Riding has a long history, it began as a Military Calvary exercise in the 1900’s. In the 1950’s civilians picked it up, and in the 1970’s organizations such as the AERC began to form and the FEI recognized it as an international event.
Some people describe it as cross country race without the jumps.
Personally, we call it a lot of fun.

What People Say
I’ve been a part of the SLR for about 10 years and love seeing this club grow. We have very experienced riders with a wealth of endurance knowledge and stories to share that are always more than welcoming and happy to mentor new riders and members. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to ride all over Canada and the US, and as well attend WEG 2018 in Tryon, NC as part of the Canadian Team and the Young Rider World Championships in Pisa, Italy in 2019 with my daughter, Lexi, as the lone Canadian rider, and I am happy to say Saskatchewan has some of the nicest trails I’ve ridden. I always have so much fun at our home rides and enjoy the company of our home-based endurance family. I always look forward to meeting the new folks that come to ride with us so don’t be shy to come over and say hi or ask for help or advice…I’m always happy to share!!
