Lily Plains Pioneer

The Lily Plain Pioneer is a 3 day event that will be held at Lily Plain just 20km west of Prince Albert on the 302 highway in the Nisbet Forest. We will be offering distances of 15, 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles and will be sanctioned by SLR, Sask Horse Federation, and AERC. The 15/25/50 (55) will be offered all 3 days, with the 75 & 100 (dependent on a minimum of 6 entries) to be held the last day. To enter the pioneer division means that a rider must ride the same horse for all 3 days for a total of 155 miles, but as with all endurance rides, riders may choose to ride any combination of miles/days/horses. AERC rules will be followed. Horses must be a minimum of 48 months (4 years) to compete in the intro or limited distance and at least 60 months (5 years) to compete in the 50/75/100. Proof of age may be required. Helmets will be mandatory for anyone under the age of 18. Anyone under the age of 16 MUST ride with a sponsor.

Ride camp is in a privately owned pasture with loads of room for parking. Water will supplied for our equine friends, but riders must supply their own. There is an outhouse (port-a-potty) on site for those without LQ trailers. The trail is fairly flat, sandy/grassy two track trail surrounded by forest. There is minimal gravel/rocks so shoes/boots are not required, but of course the choice is yours. There are creek
crossings, and water will be provided for horses on the trail where necessary. There will be a few gates to open/close also, as we don’t want to let cattle escape their boundaries. All vet checks will be held in ride camp.

Camp will be open for arrivals beginning on Tuesday, June 29th. Vetting in will begin on Thursday late afternoon. We do require that you have your horse vetted in at least 1 hour before the start of your ride. There will be a ride meeting at 7pm the evening before each ride day, which we do highly recommend all riders attend, as this will be where the trail and any changes to it are explained, the order of loops are explained, the vet will give a talk about what he’s looking for, and any other important housekeeping rules that need addressing. As well, after the first day, the awards for that day will also follow the ride meeting, with the exception of the 75 & 100 whose awards will be presented the following day.

Unfortunately, we do have to follow all provincial rules with regards to COVID, so there will be no potluck supper. Please come prepared with enough food to feed yourself and your crew. We will be asking everyone’s cooperation in following the COVID rules, such as masking and social distancing. Masking will be required in camp and the vet check, but not on trail. Our chief vet for the weekend will be Dr. Art King from Ontario and helping him will be Dr. Nathalie Reisbig from Saskatoon.

Welcome to the Lily Plain Pioneer! We look forward to hosting you and hope you enjoy our trails and the good company you will find on them!! To Finish is to Win!!!
